WILLIAM LANGEWIESCHE is a journalist and author. He is currently the international correspondent for Vanity Fair, but made his name as a national correspondent for Atlantic Monthly. His books include Cutting for Sign, Sahara Unveiled, Inside the Sky and American Ground. He was a professional airline pilot for many years.
